Taxotere #2

No allergic reaction to my 2nd round of taxotere. The nurse told me that the reactions generally come with the 2nd round. Thank goodness the chemo went without a hitch. My eyelashes are getting spotty - wah!!! - and I'm tired, tired, tired, not sleepy, just very fatigued. I was told my blood counts are low enough for me to have a blood transfusion, but I said I'd wait and see. Might have to go in and get that so I can have some energy. Pulling myself along by my fingernails is no way to locomate. While I was on the steroids, and had some energy, I went to the half-price book store and stocked up on novels. Nelson DeMille (thank you Mark Morley)- Lion's Gate I think the title is, and still have Wicked to read. Jodi Picoult is a good, easy read and am almost finished with the 2nd book. Have read "Vanishing Act" and am halfway through "Keeping Faith". So while I'm tired, I can at least lay on the couch or sit on my deck and read.

I'm ready to put all this behind me, grow a headful of hair and go on vacation.

  1. Hooray for you! Go get the transfusion - I've heard they're like magic when you're fatigued. I was fatigued and thought for sure my counts were low enough to be transfused, but they never were. So if you're eligible, go for it! Sorry 'bout your lashes. Mine are still gone - even though all (ALL!) my other hair is growing back - head hair is good - pubes...not so much. Nose hair...pass. Armpits...nah. Chin and lip hairs...keep em. And as a final insult - I'm missing the nail on my big toe, but sprouted 2 ugly black hairs on the toe knuckle! Holy crap! Can I not grow the toenail back first!?!?! Yuk!

You hang in there! You're getting rid of the last of the bad cells and can come out the other side confident and healthy. Just in time for vacation season! And floppy hats are in this year!

I'm jealous you can read during this. My chemo brain was pretty bad. I kept goofing things up at work, and my concentration was terrible. It was all I could do to get coursework done. I dropped down to one class at a time, but even that seemed like too much. It's getting better now.

Of course, I'll be starting new chemo soon and will have a whole new crop of side effects to deal with. I think the drug companies should offer designer chemo - one that makes your hair long and shiny, colors your toenails a dusty rose, slims your waist and makes you smell like flowers. If they can't cure cancer, they could at least make it more fun!

You hang in there - lots of positive thoughts and happy karma coming your way. It's supposed to rain here this weekend - coming from your direction. Hope you get your BOOMER thunderstorm! Take good care!

    Love, Kaysey

  2. Hi Susie,
I am sorry, I feel like I've been MIA - because I have not been in touch lately. I am so glad you are not feeling as sick this time, and although you are fatigued - it sounds like you are doing so good! I can't wait to see you this summer!

Keep taking good care of yourself, and hope you are feeling more energetic ASAP.

    I love You!!!!!

  3. GREAT news! Yup - get the transfusion, sounds like you're down a quart.

And also great to see you posting again! The moods you go through are shared by everyone who reads them - if you're excited, we're excited, and if you're down, we're down (and know we need to step up our cheerleading efforts). Empathy, I believe is the word - we feel what you feel (though - obviously for most of us, at a lesser level).

    Keep up the spirit, kiddo!

    Mark

  4. Fantastic news. I bet you can hardly wait for that sandy beach. You will probably have so much hair that you will be in the shower for an hour washing all the sand from you hair.

Glad to hear your on the downslide. I think what that doctor told you about living an old fruitfill life to 93 is looking better and better all the time.

    Keep strong!
From the person you MADE read The Shack.

  5. Mom,
You are almost done! You should print out a picture of the beach house and hang up your bikini where you can see it everyday so it gives you a positive forward momentum.

    I love you xoxox
