Another Dollar, Another Day

Here's Day Two in the hospital...she looks good, but she doesn't feel good :( She's been throwing up today as well and has only had a few sips of chicken broth and a third of a popsicle. The GI specialist came in today and he scheduled an upper GI endoscopy for tomorrow to see if she's fighting some sort of infection in her stomach or esophagus. They have to confirm that her blood counts are all up tomorrow, so they aren't going to schedule her a specific appointment until she has a better blood count. She's getting two units of blood transfused right now and she has a low-grade temperature, so all in all, it's been a pretty rough few days (and weeks) for her.
Beverly stopped by today, but Mom was sleeping the majority of her visit, but KayDee's stopping by tomorrow morning so she'll hopefully be feeling better by then. She loves the visits and the phone calls so keep them coming. She wants everyone to know that she knows she has a ton of e-mails, but she hasn't been checking her e-mail in awhile (her computer is back at Best Buy getting fixed again). I'm staying the night with her at the hospital tonight, so I'll keep you all posted on her progress. You can post on here and I'll be checking this and reading all comments to her, so post away!

This is a picture of all the fluids, potassium and blood they're dripping into her right now.

  1. Lauren,
Bless your heart! Thank you so much for keeping us updated. Please tell your mom I am thinking of her and rooting her on as she gets through these next few days. Tell her, that she is not alone...I am there with her in spirit...I am sitting on the edge of her bed...we are both laughing hysterically, at the outrageously funny jokes she always comes up with, hearing the stories she always seems to remember, that I would rather forget :o and we are having a great day.☺

Susie, "Laughter is the best medicine" and I am looking forward to the next time I see you, as I am sure you will have some new jokes and stories to tell. (For those who know Susie well, you know what I am talking about. Always keeping us rolling in laughter with her "off the wall humor".)
Those blood transfusions will do wonders to make you feel so much better, but I sure hope they do not turn you into a blood thirsty Vampire :)

Take care and behave yourself and do what the doctors and nurses tell you!

    Love you,
    Debbie

  2. PS-
    Susie,
I don't care what you think, but you look "Damn Good" to me laying in that hospital bed! Before you know it, I know you will be feeling this good inside too. Just keep hanging in there, we are all in this together.

Love and hugs to you today.

  3. Thanks Debbie for keeping up with all of her progress! KayDee's on her way right now. Mom thinks she's lost her sense of humor because of all this, but I assure you, it's still there (she still cracks jokes with the nurses and young transporter hunks that wheel her around). She has her endoscopy here in a little, but it may be postponed a few hours as her levels are all really low still. They had to switch her IV to her other arm because her entire right arm was burning this morning (they said it was most likely from the potassium drip, so they discontinued that one). Her vomiting is still as bad as it has been since last week and she still can't hold anything down. One of the doctors came in this morning and he said he thinks that she may have a nick in her esophagus or some kind of infection that's forcing everything right back up. He said it's hopefully something they can repair today. They'll be putting her under for her endoscopy today, so anything they find they'll try to fix today.
I think she's look damn good, too! The radiation has given her this lovely glow and it looks like she's just gotten back from the Bahamas!!!! She doesn't see herself like that, but I'm taking pictures of her that catch her new tan! :)

  4. Lauren - I've really been worried when I didn't see you guys downstairs of the hospital on Tuesday and Wed. I feel like Scout! Lost without Susie! Please give her a big hug for me and call me today if you can. 515-229-2361
